ARCHAEOLOGICAL Site Colentum becomes monument of volunteerism.

Piše: Velin Valchev — 18. January, 2018.

On Monday, 2 October 2017, the first volunteer action within the international Youth Exchange project “Investing in young people – GLUE project” was organized. It  brought together 40 unemployed young people from Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Turkey, Portugal and Bulgaria.

This group of young volunteers assisted in works at the Colentum archaeological site in Murter on the Gradina peninsula. A group of 40 young people from six countries was divided into three teams, two of which completed the circular pathway around Gradina hill, finishing the remaining part of the dry stone wall pathway, the remains of Liburnian rampart, to make it usable for cyclists and more comfortable for walkers. The third team cleared the vegetation next to the dry stonewall on the new archaeology themed beach, to free the dry stone wall for rebuilding in the future volunteer actions.

Participants of The GLUE project  joined their names to the long list of volunteers that  contributed to the vision of Colentum as an archaeological and recreational park and future arboretum with their volunteer work. We can count more than 300 names of international and local volunteers who volunteered in Colentum since 2010. We believe that the archaeological site of Colentum will be recognizable in the future as a monument of volunteering.
